Chinese traditional wisdom tells us that one should not store away winter clothing until after the Dragon Boat Festival. Although it was already late May, changes in weather and temperature were sometimes quite extreme. Today (24 May), Dr WK Lo Wai-Kwok, BPA Vice Chairman, and Ms Lo Wai-lan, BPA Kwai Tsing District Council Member, paid a visit to the BOKSS Lai Yiu Neighbourhood Elderly Centre and Housing Society’s Chung Ning Sheh in Kwai Tsing District to join the elderly in an early celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival.

The two centers were filled with joy and happiness as the elderly enjoyed the zhongzi (rice dumplings) delights and well wishes bestowed generously by the BPA visitors. The senior citizens also received fruits from Dr Lo and Ms Lo who greeted everyone with warm enthusiasm. Dr Lo and Ms Lo also entertained with an impromptu duet of classic songs, which the elderly enjoyed immensely in chorus and responded with hearty applause.

“Most of the elderly attach great significance to traditional Chinese festivals. Our volunteers have therefore prepared a total of 200 gift sets to share with them on this festive occasion,” Ms Lo said.

She thanked Towngas and the Caritas Jockey Club Lai King Rehabilitation Center respectively for providing zhongzi ingredients and a kitchen for preparing the dumplings. She also extended her gratitude and appreciation to the volunteers for their hard work and selfless contribution.

Dr Lo praised Ms Lo for her dedication and commitment to serving her neighborhood, and also commended her on acting as a bridge between the BPA and local residents. The BPA strives to put into practice its motto of “Business drives economy, Professionalism improves livelihood” and to do so more widely across all districts in Hong Kong.
