Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Secretary for Administration (CS), and Professor KC Chan, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, were joined by the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) to explain the Proposals for Selecting the Chief Executive by Universal Suffrage (political reform proposal) at the entrance of Lai Chi Kok MTR station this morning (April 29). The BPA contingent comprising Dr Lo Wai-kwok, BPA Vice Chairman; Dr Priscilla Leung Mei-fun, Legislative Councillor; Mr Jimmy Kwok Chun-wah, Sham Shui Po District Council Chairman; Mr Bruce Li Ki-fung, Sham Shui Po District Council Member; and Mr Thomas Cheung Tsun-yung, BPA Regional Affairs Convenor handed out information leaflets and engaged commuters in the effort to drum up support for the proposal of introducing a “one person, one vote” approach to electing the CE in 2017. At one point, the CS led the chant, “2017! Make it Happen!”, which is the slogan for a city-campaign to rally support for the reform proposals.
Members of the public were surprised to see Mrs Carrie Lam and Professor KC Chan, who were on hand to distribute leaflets, shake hands and take pictures with passersby on their request. There were numerous expressions of supports and encouragement to the officials and BPA members with some giving the thumbs up.
There were also some who shared with the CS their aversion to chaos and disorder, as well as hopes for the eventual passage of the political reform package, which they regarded as crucial to the continuous prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.
