BPA Response to Government Sanctions against the Philippines

The HKSAR Government announced today that it would implement the first phase of sanctions against the Philippines over the 2010 hostage-taking incident. The Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) welcomes the move as a show of Hong Kong society’s resolve and solidarity with the victims and their relatives in their fight for justice.

It has been more than three years since the tragic incident but the Philippine President and his Government have yet to assume responsibility and issue a formal apology. BPA shares the general public’s sense of strong dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs and urges the Philippine Government to take immediate action in responding to the four key demands by the victims and their relatives for a satisfactory resolution that would pave the way for the normalization of ties between Hong Kong and the Philippines.
