The Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) organised a special activity to pay tribute to mothers on Mother’s Day (11 May) and made available a total of 8,000 carnations to BPA District Councilors and community officers for further distribution on the street. Dr Lo Wai-kwok, BPA Vice Chairman, and Dr Priscilla Leung Mei-fun, BPA Legislative Councilor were respectively in Tsing Yi and Tai Po to join other BPA District Councilors in celebrating the special occasion with local residents.

It was busier than usual outside Tsing Yi MTR Station as families enjoyed a special day out with their mothers. Dr Lo, Mr. Fong Ping, Chairman of Tsing Yi District Council and Ms Tam Wai-chun, Tsing Yi District Councilor helped families celebrate by handing out flowers to the mothers passing by. Dr Leung was also joined by her husband, Professor Wang Gui-guo, and their son who showed their support by helping with the distribution of flowers.

The musically talented Dr Lo entertained locals by performing the song ‘Praise to Parents’ on his saxophone. He said, “Carnations symbolize children’s gratitude to their mothers and the song captures their feelings of love. Whether through flower or song, both fit perfectly with the theme of today’s event, ‘Paying Tribute to Mothers’, which is organised by the BPA to show our heartfelt appreciation for one of the most important persons in our lives. We can also convey messages of care and love to our mothers through mobile communication applications.”

Dr Lo then left Tsing Yi for Tai Po to join District Councilors, Mr Man Chen-fai and Mr Chan Cho-leung, in exalting motherly love. Despite the non-stop drizzle, all of the 8,000 carnations were given away very quickly. In his interactions with residents, Dr Lo noted that many cross-generational families enjoyed the opportunity of having Dim Sum together. A mother thanked Dr Lo for the carnation, which she received after enjoying Dim Sum with her entire family. She commended the BPA for their service to the community and suggested enhancing this for the benefit of all residents.

The BPA is grateful to residents’ for their enthusiastic support and is prepared to step up efforts in the delivery of diverse programmes that are useful to local communities. The BPA would like to express its sincere thanks to all those who helped make its event, “Paying Tribute to Mothers”, a great success and to wish mothers everywhere “Happy Mother’s day”.
