The New Territories West Branch of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) officially opens its office today (September 30) at Sha Tsui Road Tsuen Wan. The convenient location that enables easy access is highly commended by the guests attending the opening. They believe it will help the Alliance’s role as a bridge between the business community, Hong Kong’s society and the local residents.
The Alliance has opened three offices since its inception less than one year ago. Chairman Mr Andrew Leung, who is busy with the Government’s measures against property speculation, said it wasn’t easy to get an ideal district office for the Alliance. “Like every other tenant, our Alliance is also a normal tenant and we would prefer to have an office on the ground floor to facilitate the local residents. However, because of the difficulties of getting ground floor premises and a big rise in rents, we eventually decided to go upstairs. Yet the move is a good sign that we have scaled another peak in conducting our community work,” he said.
Honorary Chairman Dr Lau Wong-fat said that the office, though small, was self-contained and effective. “The office in effect is about 680 square foot. It is open-plan and very flexible space. In the future we can consider using the outer wall of the building to publicise our community work to local residents,” he said.
He encouraged members to reach out to the community and obtain their views so that the Alliance can develop sound proposals for the Government. “We look forward to more district council members in the New Territories West region joining our Alliance to reinforce our service network,” he said.
Chairman Mr Andrew Leung is optimistic about the Alliance’s future development. He said the fourth district office was in the pipeline. Going beyond Hong Kong Island and the New Territories, he revealed that the Alliance would be marching towards Kowloon West. When toasting to the guests and journalists, he looked forward to seeing them very soon at the next opening, and enjoying the delicious roast pork again.
