BPA calls for MTR fare cuts by 20 to 30% for 9 months

COVID-19 epidemic jeopardizes Hong Kong people’s livelihood. Honorable Members of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) met with the Secretary for Transport and Housing Frank Chan Fan on March 9 to suggest the MTR Corporation to reduce fares by 20 to 30 percent for 9 months in order to alleviate the burden of travelling expenses on citizens. To tide the public over difficult times, the implementation period should be from April until the end of this year. BPA urged the government to cover related expenses by the dividend income from MTR.

HKSAR Government announced on July 25 the “Co-location arrangement of Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link”, which will follow the model of Shenzhen Bay Port, that three floors of the West Kowloon­terminus will be regarded as outside the territorial boundary of Hong Kong, and will be leased to mainland authorities to exercise jurisdiction.

BPA Sham Shui Po Office Opens today

The establishment of the Sham Shui Po Office signifies a new chapter in the development of the BPA’s community work in Kowloon.

The Business and Professionals Alliance (BPA) expanded its presence and reach to Kowloon with the official opening of an office in Sham Shui Po today (March 29). The BPA’s other offices currently include the Hong Kong Island headquarters, New Territories East Branch and New Territories West Branch. Dr Ko Wing-man, Secretary for Food and Health, Mr Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment, Mr He Jing, Kowloon Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr Edward Yau Tang-wah, Director of the Chief Executive’s Office, and other guests attended a roast pig carving ceremony to celebrate the opening ceremony.

The Yuen Long office of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) District Council member KS Chong was officially opened today (March 24). Ms Florence Hui, Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Zhang Xiaoying, Deputy Director of New Territories Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Andrew Leung, BPA Chairman, and several distinguished guests officiated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Spring Dinner of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) was held today (6 March) in Beijing. More than 100 guests attended the dinner, including Mr. CY Leung, Chief Executive, Mr. Qiao Xiaoyang, Chairman of National People’s Congress (NPC) Law Committee, Mr. Yang Chonghui, Chairman of the CPPCC Subcommittee for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Compatriots and Overseas Chinese, Mr. Lu Xinhua, spokesman of the second session of the 12th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, Ms Yin Xiaojing, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr Zhang Rongshun, Chairperson of the Basic Law Committee, as well as NPC Deputies and CPPCC members and other HKSAR government officials.

BPA’s Proposals in the CPPCC Session

In this year’s Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) session, four members of Business and Professionals Alliance (BPA) for Hong Kong raised a total of six proposals. Some of them are concerned with youth development, including the promotion of social mobility among youth, establishment of a unified academic accreditation authorities, as well as facilitating the tax system and policies for Hong Kong people who work in the three Special Economic Zones (namely Hengqin, Qianhai and Nansha) in China.

BPA’s response to the 2014/2015 Budget: Pragmatic and Forward-Looking

BPA endorses the Budget for being pragmatic and forward-looking, which will eventually enhance Hong Kong’s competitiveness.

The Financial Secretary, Mr. John Tsang, in his Budget today highlighted for the first time the potential structural deficit. He also proposed a series of initiatives to strengthen Hong Kong’s competitiveness in several sectors. BPA endorses the Budget for being pragmatic and forward-looking, which will eventually enhance our competitiveness. The Budget aligns with BPA’s theme of the year – ‘Creativity and Upward Mobility-Brightening Hong Kong’s Future.’
