BPA Inauguration Ceremony – Speech by Dr.Peter Lam, Chairman of the Board of Governors

Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive, the Honorable Mr. Leung Chun Ying, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, the Honorable Mr. Lin Wu, Guests and Friends, Good afternoon.

Overlooking the Victoria Harbour, under the Lion Rock, here we gather to celebrate the birth of the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong.

After the Reunification with the motherland, our citizens regained the right to participate in the formulation of policies and in the governance of Hong Kong. In 2017, we can elect the Chief Executive through universal suffrage. It is a heavy responsibility. The business and professionals sectors and the middle class must also fulfill this responsibility. Hong Kong is my home. Hong Kong belongs to the seven million people here. Managing and nourishing our homeland is the honorable duty and right of every citizen. Upholding the “One country” principle and respecting the differences between the “Two systems” are the guidelines in this task.

I emerged from a commercial corporation, and joined a group of friends who shared common aims, to strive for the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. I took on the role of the Chairman of the Board of Governors, for the sole reason of representing our friends in the business and professionals sectors in supporting the Alliance.

My participation is for the purpose of the genuine good of Hong Kong. We hope more people from different sectors can support the Alliance. We hope to cheer for the SMEs. We will strive for the benefits of the middle class, and hope that this enhances the happiness and fortune of the community.

To conclude, I convey my best wishes to all our honoured guests for good health, success in work and happiness in life.

Thank you. And thank you to friends from the media.
