Paying Tribute to Mothers

The Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) organised a special activity to pay tribute to mothers on Mother’s Day (11 May) and made available a total of 8,000 carnations to BPA District Councilors and community officers for further distribution on the street.

Question – Development of Lantau Island (Jeffrey Lam)

The Chief Executive has stated in the 2014 Policy Address that the Government will explore ways to further develop the eastern waters off Lantau Island and neighbouring areas, with a view to developing an East Lantau Metropolis, which will become a new core business district. Also, to dovetail with the completion of the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities (HKBCF) Island of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB), the Government will explore the feasibility of developing commercial facilities at HKBCF so as to develop its potential for a “bridgehead economy”.

Question – Supplementary Labour Scheme (Jeffrey Lam)

Quite a number of employers have relayed to me that industries such as the construction, retail and catering, care services, etc., have all along been plagued with the problem of insufficient labour supply, resulting in an increase in their operating costs. They have also pointed out that the application procedures of the Supplementary Labour Scheme (the Scheme) under which employers may apply for labour importation are not only complicated but also very time-consuming.

BPA Sham Shui Po Office Opens today

The establishment of the Sham Shui Po Office signifies a new chapter in the development of the BPA’s community work in Kowloon.

The Business and Professionals Alliance (BPA) expanded its presence and reach to Kowloon with the official opening of an office in Sham Shui Po today (March 29). The BPA’s other offices currently include the Hong Kong Island headquarters, New Territories East Branch and New Territories West Branch. Dr Ko Wing-man, Secretary for Food and Health, Mr Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment, Mr He Jing, Kowloon Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr Edward Yau Tang-wah, Director of the Chief Executive’s Office, and other guests attended a roast pig carving ceremony to celebrate the opening ceremony.

Ms Florence Hui, Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Zhang Xiaoying, Deputy Director of New Territories Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Andrew Leung, BPA Chairman, and several distinguished guests officiated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
