BPA 2nd Symposium on Political Reform

The Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) today (January 1) invited Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Secretary for Administration, and Mr Raymond Tam Chi-yuen, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, to attend the BPA’s 2nd Symposium on Political Reform. During the discussion, participants encouraged the government to continue its fight to secure votes from the pan-democrats. There were also calls for all parties to focus the discussion on detailed arrangements for implementing universal suffrage for electing the next Chief Executive (CE).

BPA’s Response to the 2015 Policy Address: Pragmatic & Progressive

The Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) welcomes the Government’s Policy Address and is pleased to note that it has adopted some of our suggestions on improving the economy and people’s livelihoods. Specifically, these relate to the areas of land use, housing, youth, and support for the disadvantaged. Mr Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, BPA Chairman, described the Policy Address as “pragmatic and progressive”. Mr Andrew Leung anticipates intense opposition to the proposed policies and urges the government to display willpower in garnering public support for policy implementation for the advancement of Hong Kong.

BPA’s response to Albert Ho’s plan to resign after the Legco Vote on Political Reform

Democratic Party Legislator, Mr Albert Ho Chun-yan, today (January 9) announced plans to trigger a “de-facto referendum” by quitting after the Legislative Council had voted on the Political Reform Package. The Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) believes this is a complete waste of taxpayers’ money and a hindrance on the gradual and orderly progress of constitution development in Hong Kong.

BPA Welcomes Second Round of Public Consultation on Constitutional Development

The Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) welcomes the government’s launch today (January 7) of the Second Round of Public Consultation on Constitutional Development. The latest exercise provided ample scope for discussions on the nominating procedures and methods for electing the Chief Executive in 2017 as given in the Basic Law and the relevant Interpretation and Decisions of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPCSC).

BPA Opens Smart Green Workshop on Turning Food Waste into Food Wise

Over three thousand tonnes of food waste are dumped into the landfills every day. This combined with low recycling rates mean that our landfills will reach capacity very soon. In order to tackle the problem of food waste at its main source, households, the Business and Professional Alliance for Hong Kong (BPA) cooperated with green groups, businesses and schools to promote in families the concept of “Food Wise” by organising “The BPA Smart Green Workshop” during the Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo (HKBPE).
